This page is designed to help the IT user at Mason navigate the Data Stewardship Policy. The three levels of security as defined here augment the Policy’s definition. For data that fall into the Policy’s categories of Public Use Data and Internal Use Only Data, the steps outlined in the Basic Security section are recommended. These security measures are explained in step-by-step instructions. If you experience difficulty, please contact the ITU Support Center at (703) 993-8870.
Reminders:
Everyone should take Basic Security steps to ensure that their computer runs smoothly and safely on the Mason Network. These steps are not a guarantee that your computer will not be compromised, but serve to make your computer a less inviting target to malicious persons.
Data that is specifically protected by law, regulation or university policy, requires the Basic Security steps, plus the More Security — Regulated Data measures for additional security.
Data that, if accessed by unauthorized persons, could cause severe reputational, monetary, legal, or operational damage, requires our Highest Level Security measures.
